Devlog #0 - Hello World

Hi everyone!

This is my first devlog ever and I wanted to use this opportunity to say a few words about myself and the game.

The developer

I currently work in the AAA industry as a programmer, but my vision for the future is to completely control what I work on and travel the indie path. I've tried developing commercial games a few times over the past few years, but failed miserably (overscoping and other classic blunders).

A couple of years ago I decided to take a step back and start from scratch by participating in weekly game jams over the course of the year, resulting in 10 games that I'm really proud of. If you're reading this and never participated in a game jam, I can't recommend it enough.

The general idea for Brugvik came after watching The Lives of Others and playing Return of the Obra Dinn, both fantastic works.

I've been developing the game in my free time over the past year, working around 6-7 hours/week so progress has been somewhat slow, but it's been amazing to see the project gradually take shape.

My goal for 2020 was to create a polished demo  and release it on itch, which I managed to do. For 2021, the goal is to release the final game.

Over the next few months my efforts will be geared towards finishing the actual content for the game (recordings, documents, characters, puzzles, how it all fits together to tell the story).

The devlogs

Starting with devlog #1, I'll talk about various aspects of developing the game over the past year, slowly catching up with the present state of development.

I hope you find this interesting and stay tuned for future posts!
